Just as an idiom is a “turn of phrase”, Southern Idiom takes the stigma of Southern art and turns it on its head. Rather than playing into uninformed, tired stereotypes, SECCA’s exhibition series presents local artists the way they actually are: vibrant, forward-thinking, defying expectations, energetic, ever-evolving, subversive, and at the core, cool.

Alice Finkelstein Allen doesn’t just make jewelry, she creates modern heirlooms. Inspired by her great-grandfather’s men’s clothier called Fink’s and her other great-grandfather’s store called J.W. Smoak Hardware Co., we created a brand that honors her heritage and brings it into the present.
